The Ancient Manor House B&B is a Grade II* listed townhouse situated in the picturesque antique and artisan quarter. It dates from 1640 and is built with scavenged stone from the nearby castle. Each room has its own unique style with stone fireplaces and ceilings that groan under heavy oak beams.
The historic market town of Barnard Castle hosts a myriad of period buildings, quaint tearooms and charming gift shops and galleries. We are nestled within the oldest part of the town famous for its antique shops with pubs and restaurants just a short walk away. Nearby, Blagraves, a first class restaurant, dates from the 15thC and is known for its connection with both King Richard III and Cromwell. The 11thC castle rests above us, a sentinel watching over the town and the River Tees.
Five minutes walk along Newgate brings you to the spectacular French chateau-style Bowes Museum, a gift to the town from Josephine and John Bowes in the 19thC.
The Ancient Manor House provides an excellent base to explore the dramatic and diverse surrounding countryside - the roaring beauty of High Force, the stunning Pennines and spectacular Yorkshire Dales.
